 Sixth grade was a pivotal point in my life as a pre-teen. Our school hired the first black teacher as an experiment. This book is all about Mattie Miller who waltzed into our lives as our sixth grade English teacher. The school board and parents were not happy with her teaching at Harper Elementary. We were mesmerized by her grace, charm and teaching skills. This book is about the impact that Mattie had on her students and how we honor her almost 60 years later.
