Dervish 80 Commemorations were held in Archangel, Russia, a week later after Liverpool Commemorations, namely on August 28, 2021. The Commemoration was opened by a very interesting event, an online International Teleconference / Forum “HANDS ACROSS THE SEAS” which united many people from around the world in their desire to remember the Arctic Convoys and pay tribute to the lost veterans.
"Lest We forget!" was a traditional motto of the “Hands Across the Seas” Teleconference, a kind of an online International Forum in the city of Archangel. The Forum was arranged by the University British Centre in cooperation with the Archangel Lore Museum which had opened the Exposition “From an Able Seaman to the Admiral” devoted to Dervish 80 commemorations in the city of Archangel. There were 19 delegates at the Forum representing the communities of the former Allied Forces during WW2: Russia, Canada, USA, Australia, Norway, Great Britain.
The Russian delegates of the International Online Forum “Hands Across the Seas”, were sitting in the Exchange Hall of the Lore Museum and expressed their opinion that the online meeting was both a moving and joyful event for all the participants. It was moving to remember that noble generation of the Arctic Convoys veterans on all sides, that gave so much in the last war. However it was joyful, that we were able to come together in unity and fellowship to remember the veterans of the former allied communities and share our thoughts and memories. It successfully united both the official representatives and interested people like writers and administrators of the face book site “Arctic Convoys – Forgotten Heroes”, veterans and their descendants, i.e. sons and daughters who always remember their fathers with gratitude and pride, with love and reverence.
