 His name was to be William, but his dad Arnold confused the registrar and it became Wilberforce. His whole life was within the confines of his Father's farm, even his education with being homeschooled by his Mother. He was happy to work the farm, even though his father did not give him a wage for his labours and cast-off clothing were deemed good enough because Wilberforce seldom left the farm, so had no reason to dress to impress.

It all changed after his parents died and Uncle Baldwin inherited the farm, immediately deciding to sell it. He gave Wilberforce one month to get his affairs in order and leave, taking with him nothing more than the sum of money his mother was able to accumulate after holding it back from her housekeeping.
